My family just spent 12 days on the island of Cozumel. My 12 year old son acquired an allergic reaction to something he ingested that resulted in a painful and very uncomfortable skin inflammation. I tried many different antihistamines and treatment creams for 5 days to settle the reaction, but, nothing brought him comfort until I applied the Lavender Vanilla Lotion. New Lavender Vanilla Lotion!

Maui Island Secret has a new product!  We developed a formula so special it warrants a place on our roster and is the first new product we have brought out in years.  It is our luxurious Vanilla Lavender crème built for everyday usage.

Many of you have visited the fields of Lavender rolling gently through up country Maui on the slopes of Haleakala.  Most of you know the intoxicating fragrance.   But lavender is more than just a pleasant fragrance.

Our Vanilla Lavender has a variety of benefits in our rich crème, not least of which it is a great moisturizer.  It also is a well-known treatment for psoriasis and other skin inflammations.  It is a proven wrinkle reducer.  It is a very effective treatment for sunburn and can also be beneficial for those suffering from eczema.

Lavender Oil is effective against insect bites so our crème will not attract mosquitoes like so many do.  Our formula has pure vanilla in it as well and the combination of that with the lavender gives a soothing, sophisticated fragrance … nothing like your Grandma’s lavender of yesteryear.  It is calming and our testers loved using it before bedtime for great skin and a restful night.

Finally, the crème is noncomedogenic and safe for use head-to-toe.  Daily use will result in healthy, softer, younger looking skin.

Protect your skin!

We recently heard the sad news that one of our close associates has been diagnosed with melanoma cancer.  The good news is that it was caught very early and a minor surgery is all that is required to take care of it.  

At Maui Island Secret we have been developing, manufacturing and distributing some of the world’s finest tanning products for the last 15 years.  We believe that you can have a safe time in the sun and get a good tan as long as you combine your sun exposure with healing after sun aloes and a healthy dose of common sense.

And, with the introduction of our Perfect Organics (Perfect-O) sunscreens, we are helping you with that “dose of common sense!”  Our blends feature a moisturizing base and a physical sunscreen in 4 different strengths … SPF 5, SPF 15, SPF 30 and SPF 45.  We do not believe in the extremely high SPF’s like 70 and 100 since they provide negligible extra protection all the while requiring high amount of chemical sunscreens to test that high in laboratory situations.

We recommend starting out with higher SPF’s on sun sensitive areas (anywhere the bone is close to the skin) while using more moderate SPF’s on the rest of your body.  After attaining a base tan, our coffee based Browning Formula will give you the tan of your life.  We always emphasize use of our sunscreens on the face and other sun sensitive areas.

Back to our friend with melanoma.   He was lucky in that his dermatologist found the spot during a regular checkup.  He does a self-check frequently but the only way to really be sure is to have a professional look at your skin. 

Skin Cancer claims 12,000 lives a year.  Caught early it usually poses little risk.  Let it go too long and you can, unfortunately, be one of the statistics so please be diligent with your skin.

Some More Information about the Three Kinds of Cancer:

The two most common forms are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. They are referred to as nonmelanoma skin cancer. The most dangerous form is melanoma that tends to metastasize throughout the body and can cause death. There are almost 70,000 new cases of melanoma every year.

Basal cell accounts for 90% of new skin cancers and usually begins as a small dome shaped bump. They can appear very dark and are usually irregular shaped. Squamous begins in the squamous cells which are flat, scale-like cells that form the surface of the skin, the hollow organs of the body and the respiratory and digestive tracts. So, squamous can form in any of these tissues. It most frequently appears on the skin as rough, red bumps on the scalp, face, ears and backs of the hands. It can take 10 years for the cancer to invade deeply into the skin and become fully developed squamous cell carcinoma.

The risks for developing any of these cancers include age, UV exposure in tanning beds, therapeutic radiation and most prominently exposure to the sun.

After Sun Aloes

One of the "secrets" to getting and maintaining a great tan is keeping your skin hydrated.

It is vitally important as to the product you use in the sun and our primary tanning formulas, Browning Formula and Browning Formula SPF 5 Creme, are the best to enhance your tan while enjoying the great outdoors.

Even more important is what you do after sun exposure and everyday to keep skin moisturized, healthy and vibrant.  That is the difference between a tan that will fade and "flake" and smooth, silky skin that can keep its golden color for weeks, not days.

With that fact in mind, Maui Island Secret developed our non-parallel after sun aloes years ago, based on the exacting demands of Maui residents who have spent decades on the beautiful beaches, enjoying the tropical sun of the islands and who enjoy a great, deep, dark tan.

Our Burn-to-Brown aloe gel is the ultimate recovery product.  If you get a little too much sun, this is the first step to repairing the damage.  Its pure aloe is derived only from the gel portion of the plant, not the thick, heavy cactus skin which has no medical benefits and unfortunately is what most companies use.  B-to-B also includes menthol, tea tree oil, green tea extract, maui coffee extract.  Excellent, of course, for sunburn, Burn-to-Brown is also great for skin rashes, shaving irritation, kitchen burns, insect bites and jellyfish stings.

Our renown Tan Sealer is the most important product to use to help speed along your tanning process and is paramount for daily use to keep skin hydrated.  Generous amounts of healing aloe and the super anti-oxidant, Green Tea, as well as a touch of Coffee, provide the main benefits to heal and nourish the skin. Also includes sunflower oil, rose hips oil, shea butter, passion flower oil, vitamin E and maui coffee extract to name a few.

Proper use of the product is vitally important.  After sun exposure, you should first take a warm shower to open the pores of the skin and bring the heat in your body to the skin's surface, then pat yourself dry (no vigorous towel drying, please)' followed by smoothing the product slowly and evenly over the skin.  Do not rub it quickly into the skin as that can negate the benefits.  You will see that it will sink into the skin and after about 60seconds if any remains on the surface, then put it gently into the skin.  Neither product will stain clothing.

If you got too much sun, Burn-to-Brown should be used first followed by Tan Sealer.  For daily maintenance, Tan Sealer is the choice.  Word of caution ... Like all real Pure Aloes, Burn-to-Brown is an astringent and although it is nature's best healer, it can dry the skin; always use Tan Sealer after using Burn-to-Brown.

In 1999, we started Maui Island Secret with a simple goal in mind ... Help people get a great tan and take care of their skin at the same time.

We are the "tan company". We started with just one product, the "secret" which inspired our name, our famous and incredibly effective Browning Formula.  It is a rich blend of anti-oxidants, moisturizers and tanning enhancers and works wonders in the sun.  Exotic blends of coffee including genuine Kona coffee are among the ingredients that make this product unique.

Coffee not only gives the appearance of some instant color but is also a great anti-oxidant and natural UV screen.  This allows you to enjoy the sun and naturally develop a golden tan.  There is no SPF in our Browning Formula so you should avoid use on sun sensitive areas, but people are amazed at the results.
